Setup 02

Gear fishing

A versatile spinning setup for casting spoons, spinners, and jigs from the beach.

Reel
Choose a saltwater-capable spinning reel with enough capacity for the selected main line. The linked listing is the 2500D-XH—not a 3000—and does not claim a sealed saltwater design. Confirm its capacity and saltwater care before buying. Daiwa Exceler LT 2500D-XH Spinning Reel · 6.2:1
Main line

Lures
Casting spoons, spinners, and jigs in several weights; use the lightest option that reaches the water cleanly.
Tools

Leave casting room around other people. Rinse salt from the reel and inspect line and leader often.

Shared setup

Waders & wading boots

Useful for both fly and gear fishing when the shoreline and water are safe to enter.

01

Waders

Choose breathable chest waders with gravel guards and enough room to move and layer underneath. Wear a snug wading belt every time, and rinse off salt and sand after fishing. The supplied link opens Medium/Basalt; confirm your body, inseam, and stockingfoot sizing before checkout.

Simms Men’s Tributary Stockingfoot Waders · Medium, Basalt
02

Wading boots

Use supportive boots sized over the wader socks, with secure lacing and tread that suits the sand, mud, and cobbles in front of you. Check your grip in shallow water before taking another step. The supplied link opens men’s size 11/Gunmetal with a rubber sole; confirm your size before checkout.

Wading safety

Do not treat waders as flotation. Wear a properly fitted PFD, stay out of breaking waves, strong current, and water with unknown footing, and turn back whenever your footing feels uncertain. Wade with someone when possible. Read Transport Canada’s cold-water guidance ↗.
